Bennett: Boycott the Boycotters – Arutz Sheva
Education Minister Naftali Bennett, head of the Jewish Home party, had a simple message on Sunday with regards to the attempts to boycott Israel.
Bennett, who spoke at a conference at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Herzliya, said that in response to the boycotts, Israel should simply “boycott the boycotters”.
“Let it be clear to any company or organization that is considering boycotting us: We will hit back. We will attack our attackers. We will boycott our boycotters,” he declared, adding that “the boycott is a double edged sword”.
The comments come following several incidents revolving around the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Last week, the CEO of the Orange telecom company said he wished he could dump” Israel “tomorrow”. A day later the French company announced it has decided to halt its operations in Israel and end its partnership with the Israeli company Partner, which franchises Orange’s name in Israel.
The Orange CEO, Stephane Richard, later appeared to have a change of heart, when he spoke with Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom to apologize for his remarks and clarify that he “loves Israel.
Prior to the Orange affair the UK’s official student body, the National Union of Students (NUS), voted in favor of joining the BDS movement.
The representative body of all 133 universities in the United Kingdom soundly rejected the move, saying it “firmly opposes academic boycotts on the basis that they are inimical to academic freedom, including the freedom of academics to collaborate with other academics.”
