The flow of jihadists into Syria dries up as Turkey cracks down on the border – Erin Cunningham/The Washington Post

by Newsstand

— For years, Turkey’s porous border with Syria provided a lifeline for the Islamic State, allowing the group to ferry weapons and fighters to a war zone where it was building its brutal “caliphate.”

But that is now changing.

[VT Editors Note: Gordon Duff and I start our 30-day countdown to leave for Tehran at the end of August. It will be the first trip for both of us, and we plan to accomplish as much as we can.

Veterans Today’s reputation has preceded us, as it seems the interviews we both have done for their domestic media, which were translated into Farsi, have made us known in the government, military and media circles.

Cedars, Sewers… and Plato’s Guns

by Taxi

One thing I can say about off-road camping under cedar trees is that it gently tilts the axis of your world-view.  It is impossible for human hands to plant seeds of hubris in the wilds of a cedar forest; or in any other grand, natural environment for that matter.  When you are standing before a majestic gathering of ancient trees, modern civilization is but an afterthought with a bitter aftertaste.  The inhaled pure life-force of the scented air may have something to do with one’s sudden altered state and the realization that the world you left behind is but a nightmare of increasing miseries.  The pointlessness of truth in the mouths of liars struck me the hardest on this camping trip.  It would take me years to elaborate on this philosophical point, but suffice it to say that when insidious liars and propagandists perpetually hijack the truth for their own political ends, the sheep of humanity indeed are hopelessly lost to the belly of the wolf.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s Weltanschauung Is Diabolical – Jonas E. Alexis/Veterans Today

by Newsstand

On June 28, Benjamin Netanyahu seemed to have claimed that he found keys to penetrate the mysteries of the universe—at least the universe his regime is desperately trying to build in the Middle East. Netanyahu realized that once he utters a statement, no matter how wild or excessive or dubious, it inexorably becomes the truth and is therefore infallible.

Virtually every Republican seems to know that Netanyahu tells nothing but the inexorable truth. If you doubt this, ask people like Lindsey Graham, John Boehner, Thomas Sowell, and the Neocons.[2] In fact, it has been widely believed that Benjamin Netanyahu is the “Republican Senator from Israel”[3] and “the new Republican hero.”[4] The Neoconservative magazine FrontPage, which is run by none other than radical David Horowitz, goes even further to say that Netanyahu only proclaims “the truth in a den of lies.”[5]

Iran Has Signed A Historic Nuclear Deal, Now It’s Israel’s Turn – Javad Zarif/The Guardian

by Newsstand

We – Iran and its interlocutors in the group of nations known as the P5+1 – have finally achieved the shared objective of turning the Iranian nuclear programme from an unnecessary crisis into a platform for cooperation on nuclear non-proliferation and beyond. The nuclear deal reached in Vienna this month is not a ceiling but a solid foundation on which we must build. The joint comprehensive plan of action, as the accord is officially known, cements Iran’s status as a zone free of nuclear weapons. Now it is high time that we expand that zone to encompass the entire Middle East.
