An old classic that remains the most beloved song in the Arab world
Even with old footage from the 1960’s, it’s still a profound and moving song.
I challenge anyone to provide an israeli song about Jerusalem that is this moving.
From the late great Yemeni singer:
Neither musically or lyrically superior to Fairouz’s song. But the lady does have a beautiful voice and face.
Israel would have to be around for a few thousand years as a ‘culture’ before it can really musically match Arabic or Iranian classical compositions.
‘”But the lady does have a beautiful voice and face.”
It’s the Arab in her; She was an Arab-Jew.
It’s seafoid’s favourite song.
Aaaah seafoid, seafoind, where art thou?
Hope seafoid stumbles on Plato’s for some d-jaying.
I wish seafoid would give us a sign …just so we know he’s ok !
Taxi , … OT ..how can I get to be bintbiba on the like button rather than the old name I had to change.?
Not healthy being a dual persona.
I think only you can alter you name from your wordpress account. I can edit your post or delete it, but I can’t change your account data. Maybe your nice son can help you get there.
Unless some tec wiz out there can give binbita instruction? Please? Pretty please, with honey and sugar and cinnamon?
Another one of my mother’s favourite singers
I agree, an exceptionally moving song
Yes, where is Seafoid? I hope he’s ok
I love that song too, bornajoo. The first time I was exposed to an English translation of the lyrics, I wept. And it still stirs up my chest after all these years.
Another moving song from the 60s, about Jerusalem and the call for peace in French by a Belgian of Italian roots, Salvatore Adamo, Incha’Allah:
Nice share, Walid, thank you.
But hands down, so far, Fairouz wins Plato’s Jerusalem Song Contest.
Thanks Walid for posting those links. What lovely and moving songs.
Me too, Borny, I’m so enjoying Walid d-jaying for us in honor of Jerusalem and all the symbolism and meaning it has to everybody.
How this city is so adored. How beautiful the way so many people love this city so passionately even though it’s not even their city.
And another passionate song about the Jerusalem of Jesus by la môme. Edith Piaf. It’s no wonder that all 3 religions believe their claim to the city is the only authentic one; sorry I drifted from Fairuz, Taxi.
Apology accepted 🙂
And gratitude for sharing.
Music aside, may the victims of Israel’s savage aggression on Gaza rest in peace. How can Israelis sleep at night being fully aware of the devastation they have caused and the hundreds of thousands left homeless. The second winter is about to start and still no solution for the homeless.
” How can Israelis sleep at night being fully aware of the devastation they have caused and the hundreds of thousands left homeless. The second winter is about to start and still no solution for the homeless.”
Walid, unfortunately it’s very easy to answer that question. Zionists are supremacists. They do not consider Palestinians as human beings and have no empathy for them whatsoever. Their empathy doesn’t extend to anyone outside their own tribe. They have more empathy for their pet dogs. And these evil sons of bitches sleep very well at night
Actually, Bornagoo, they would be sleeping well at night but for that little monster at the bottom of their bed called Hezbollah and that bogeyman under the bed called Iran.
Half of them sleep with shoes on and one eye open.
I hope you’re right Taxi. I’d love to think that was the case, at least with some of them. Unfortunately not with any of my family over there. They really are concerned with their pet dogs and not much else.
“they say Hezbollah’s got their number
So they sleep with one eye open lest they slumber
For any little sound just might be thunder
Thunder from the barrel of a gun ”
(modified from Bob Dylan’s Pat Garret and Billy the Kid. Unfortunately though, it seems like he’s a bloody zionist too!)
Sure some isaelis are completely cut off from the gnarl of their thoughts and actions towards the Palestinians and Arabs in general, but they’re also full of fear and insecurity that can easily overwhelm them when triggered. Ironically, it’s the smarter israeli who is having sleepless nights.
Good sampling cover of Dylan – heh. He’s worse than a zionist, he’s a Kahanist.
” How can Israelis sleep at night being fully aware of the devastation they have caused and the hundreds of thousands left homeless. ”
N yelling in his sleep “I …. I ….. I ….. I ….”
S shakes him – wakes him up ” Bibi wake up ….. you are having a bad dream ….. It was just another IRANIAN nightmare honey …”
N “It was NOT an IRANIAN nightmare ….”
S “so what was it honey?
N ” they were driving me to the airport and I was trying really hard to tell them ‘ I DO NOT WANT TO GO TO THE ICC ‘ ”

They are all beautiful…makes me get water in the eyes.
The songstress Fairous is perched at the top of the tree. Her song moves me the most out of the collection. So much soul there it’s heartbreaking. Joy and sorrow drunk from the same cup.
Thanks for the invite !
I bit too emotional for me to put into words .
There is a lot of silent space in my life …. when I feel too inadequate , mum’s the word !
Heartbreak and music make up much of the fabric of life.
Friends give sustenance and hope.
I was born in Jerusalem. Remember it too well .
bintbiba, je t’embrace.
Et moi aussi … un grand bisou , Taxi !!
Et une accolade bien chaleureuse !
