Is There a US-Russia Grand Bargain in Syria? – Pepe Escobar/InformationClearingHouse

March 22, 2016 3:57 pm
"Moreover, the close collaboration of the “4+1” coalition – Russia, Syria, Iran, Iraq, plus Hezbollah – has broken more ground than a mere Russia-Shi’te alignment. It prefigures a major geopolitical shift, where NATO is not the only game in town anymore, dictating humanitarian imperialism; this “other” coalition could be seen as a prefiguration of a future, key, global role for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization." yeah, fantastic.  taxi, "Who set up this little journalistic project (from both ends) and why, begs the question here." my hunch is that goldberg was planning on writing a promotion of reasserting american military "credibility" similar to the kagan interview a while back -- his primary goal being to pave the way for reassertion of american/neocon intervention in syria for clinton (or whomever takes helm of the WH).  once the primary season is over it becomes a prime time to turn the national conversation surrounding the election towards intervention in the ME -- a softening of the target (the american public) for more war and who can be the toughest. goldberg carried water for the neocons, so he was going to write this article either way. obama likely decided he'd have more leverage speaking for himself in the article.  so the article was set up by neocons to promote war in syria -- promote future neocon intervention. i totally agree w/chasmark that "Goldberg is channeling the Kagans and calling it Obama." my review of the article here http://mondoweiss.net/2016/03/goldberg-does-obama/
