Bibi's Blues: Arrest Netanyahu Petition Goes Viral In The UK – MintPress

by Newsstand

Benjamin Netanyahu is to hold talks in London this September. Under international law he should be arrested for war crimes upon arrival in the U.K for the massacre of over 2000 civilians in 2014

LONDON — Thousands of U.K. residents have signed a petition demanding the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his war crimes against Gaza during last summer’s brutal offensive. Given the large scale of support and attention, the U.K. government may be forced to publicly respond in the near future.

The petition, filed on the U.K. parliament petition website, was apparently inspired by an upcoming visit to London for meetings with the government. “Under international law he should be arrested for war crimes upon arrival in the U.K for the massacre of over 2000 civilians in 2014,” wrote the petition’s author, Damian Moran.

One is obliged to marvel at the amount of money and effort spent for the purpose of deluding the American public, few of whom have an inclining of what is going on.   (The infant Moses and the pharaoh’s daughter, 2nd century – National Museum of Damascus)

A healthy debate is currently underway within some Syrian intellectual circles, despite the disaster that has befallen them, about the role of Damascus Jews in the industry, culture and social life of their city prior the creation of the State of Israel in 1948. The issue surfaced a few years back after a series of television dramas were produced, depicting Damascus Jews in extremely favorable light. The four works broke many of the traditional stereotypes about them, mainly about stinginess and greed, also portraying them as good-citizens and fine nationalists. One of the works, for example, told the story of a beautiful and wealthy Damascene Jewish woman, who is forced to flee Damascus by her abusive husband, who works for the Zionist Commission, during the Palestine War of 1948. She pours her heart out weeping, chest-thumping her Syrianism, despite all the comforts of living in wealth in the United States. She dies from old age warmly in her bed, dreaming of Damascus.

Mondoweiss: Bird In A Cage

by Taxi

No doubt those of us who’ve been around the Mondoweiss block a few times have seen its gradual morphing from Phil Weiss’s sanguine personal blog to a media arm for the dubious JVP corp.

How visions change when the poet is reduced to using borrowed words:  waxing un-lyrical at the drunken image in the mirror.  How easy for some to abandon the principles of revolution in the name of small celebrity.  How sad that the bird should desire the cage.
